We bought our first house in France in 2001. We chose the Rouergue because we think - and we're not alone - it's one of the most beautiful French regions. The hamlet of La Salesse is high on the Causse - a limestone plateau, slashed by ravines and valleys. Our house there had views all the way to the Pyrenees.
La Salesse was an ideal holiday home, but we wanted something larger and in 2005 bought the house at Sainte Foy. We spent all 2007 working with various builders to restore the house. Rosie created the plans and oversaw the work.
Then in early 2008 Rosie was diagnosed with advanced cancer. It was a terrible shock, but nevertheless we decided to move to Sainte Foy in March, even while Rosie was having chemotherapy. She struggled bravely with the disease throughout the year but at the end of September she died
The house at Sainte Foy is a tribute to her vision, creativity and perseverance.
